About the course: 

High Performance Weaners is a hands on program with a measure to manage approach that will assist wool and lamb producers in understanding:

  • Economic benefits of improved weaner management
  • Lamb and weaner health management
  • Pre and post weaner nutrition

Participants will develop the skills and confidence to manage their weaners in a way that improves animal welfare and whole farm profitability. Each session is strategically timed to coincide with key stages of weaner management with 2 sessions held
off-farm.

The HPW course was developed as a joint Project between the Sheep CRC and RIST in 2010 .

What are the Career Outcomes: 

This course is aimed at producers, farm managers, and farm workers, that are involved in the weaning and reproductive management on farm.

How do I gain a Qualification: 

RIST is registered to provide Nationally Recognised Training throughout Australia.  Students who attend a RIST course have the opportunity to gain competencies from recognised qualifications on successful completion of the training. 

What do I study?: 

Units of competency:

AHCLSK501A - Manage livestock production

AHCLSK404A - Implement and monitor animal welfare programs

AHCLSK401A - Develop feeding plans for a production system

These Victorian accredited competencies are only applicable for those participants undertaking training in Victoria.

Can I get Credit for previous study/experience?: 

RIST offers the opportunity for students to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) or Recognition of Current Competencies (RCC) in all nationally recognised training that RIST is able to offer.

Fees and Charges: 

For eligible participants, this training is delivered with Victorian and Commonwealth Government funding.

Victoria

The State Government is responsible for setting the tuition fees for Government funded training offered by RIST. The tuition fee, including acceptable concessions, is documented in the Ministerial Direction on Fees and Charges and this document is reviewed on an annual basis by the Government.

 In addition to the Government funded training, RIST also delivers a range of commercial programs which are operated on a fee for service basis. Fees and charges for this type of training are not governed by the Ministerial Direction.
